The flora and fauna at the rare Charitable Research Reserve reflects its location along the boundary between the Carolinian zone of Canada and the Northern Hardwood forest of southern and central Ontario. Along this imaginary boundary, associations of species characteristic of Carolinian and Northern Hardwood forests intermix.
